Making Connections: Standalone Machines

All Personal Computers (PCs) begin life as stand alone machines. They are not connected to any other machine.

The only way that data can be imported into them is via a floppy disk or (more likely these days) a CD-ROM.

Communication in the form of emails or Web browsing is impossible.

You can still do a lot with such a machine. It's just that it's not very easy to share information between this machine and any other.
