Making Connections: ISP Packages

You will almost certainly pay a service fee to your ISP so that you can use their facilities.

They may well bundle this charge in amongst an overall fee which includes the provision of email addresses, Website hosting and the like.

You may also pay for the telephone call as well.

However, increasingly, ISPs have been offering deals whereby, after a one-off monthly payment, all Internet access is unmetered. The amount you pay, therefore, is not affected by the length of time you spend connected by phone to the Internet or the times of day at which you make the phone connection.

The downside to using dial-up access, is the need to tie up the existing phone line to connect to the internet. If you only have one incoming phone line, then you cannot make or receive calls whilst on the Internet.
