Making Connections: Dial-up Access

To get the best from dial-up access, you need: -

  • A reasonably modern computer (maximum 2-3 years old);

  • Relevant and current software (this will either come pre-installed on your computer or your ISP should provide it);

  • A modem which will either be internal to your computer or you will need to buy one (the minimum specification for this should be a V92 offering 56 kbps download - a reasonable brand should cost lest than £50);

  • An ISP which offers unmetered access, 24 hour telephone support off a local rate or free telephone number and a comprehensive service definition and

  • A second telephone line (possibly) for Internet access only.
