Broadband: Section 3

Accessing Broadband Services: Fat Pipe

In contrast to the 56kbps of a dial-up service, standard broadband services deliver speeds of around 512kbps.

In this context, you may also hear the term "Fat Pipe" being used.

Once again, this simply signifies that the connection between your computer(s) and the Internet has a broader capacity to carry information than was previously available. Instead of driving down an 'A' Road or a 'B' road, you now have a motorway at your disposal.
