DSL (Digital Subscriber Line):
- Was one of the first broadband technologies to become widely available and accounts for roughly 80% of the broadband usage in the UK
- Uses existing telephone lines to carry data
- Requires a digital modem (or router) to be connected to your PC
- It has been restricted in its availability by the limited number of telephone exchanges which have been set up to offer this service
- It is further restricted by the drop in quality if you are located more than 10 kilometres from the telephone exchange
- Manifests as ADSL & SDSL or Asynchronous and Synchronous, Asynchronous is high speed download and lower speed uploads whereas Synchronous is high download & upload speeds
